Poolbeg and the Sugarloaf

The Great Sugarloaf in Irish Cualann is 4km west of Kilmacanogue. It stands 501m above sea level. It is isolated from other hills and its conical shape makes it iconic. The Sugarloaf is a landmark for all those travelling along the east coast. Up to the late 19th century people used to buy sugar in mounds and this is where the Sugarloaf gets its name.
