Woodpecker

The great spotted woodpecker is mostly black and white with white shoulder patches and red underneath the tail. The Male has a red patch at the back of the head. Historically the great spotted woodpecker bred in Ireland but became extinct as a breeding species during the 17th or 18th Century following the extensive clearance of woodland. They have made an amazing come back over the years.
